Memory Lane - 50 years ago

THE M5 motorway had been officially opened in Chadwich. Lord Chesham, the parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Transport, Ernest Marples, had stepped in to do the opening after Mr Marples had been prevented from attending due to other commitments. After the opening, a crowd of enthusiasts took to the road on a Midland Red bus.

  • BROMSGROVE magistrates approved plans for extensive alterations and improvements to the Shoulder of Mutton pub,  St John Street. They included the provision of new living quarters for the licensee, new toilets and a change in the exterior appearance. The work, the court was told, would generally make the premises a better place to be.
