  AT Bromsgrove Petty Sessions, a man asked the magistrates if they could help him with his daughter, aged 16, who had taken to bad ways. She had been to a factory and to four places in service, but had left. She sometimes stayed out all night, and her behaviour was bad. The clerk replied that the girl being over 16 the magistrates could do nothing, but there were societies which dealt with such cases.

  THE bank holiday in Bromsgrove was one of the gloomiest for many years and drizzling rain had a depressing effect on visitors with no attractions or amusements in Bromsgrove to draw in people save for a tennis tournament, which had to be postponed. Consequently, the town was very quiet until evening when there were numerous visitors in motor cars and bicycles.

  THE clock on St John’s Church was stopped by an ever-expanding crows’ nest which was slowly growing in the steeple. The nest jammed the mechanism and the clock was stopped for a week before tower keeper Adrian Burns was able to climb the steeple and free the mechanism. The time-stopping incident was the second in a year despite Mr Burns’ efforts to block the birds’ entrance holes to the steeple.

  AT Bromsgrove Petty Sessions, Caroline Jones, of Worms Ash, was charged with not sending her daughter to school. Mr Pritchard, attendance officer, said the child had attended 16 times out of 55 and was 13 years of age. Defendant said there were seven in the family and she kept house on what two of her sons gave her. The sons said they would not keep the girl and she wanted to send her to another daughter in Worcester. Defendant prom-ised to send the girl to school in future and was ordered to pay 5s 6d costs.

Secretary of the action committee, Pat Wilkins, who had been a voluntary worker at the home for five years, said residents, relatives and friends would be lobbying the meeting in force.
