A BROMSGROVE based charity has announced a new partnership with postal service company Royal Mail.

Employees from the Royal Mail Group voted on which organisation they wanted to support and The Stroke Association was selected.

The company is aiming to raise at least £2 million for the charity throughout the next two years.

Funds raised will help the charity provide10,000 survivors with Life After Stroke grants of up to £300.

Moya Greene, Royal Mail Group’s chief executive officer, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Stroke Association and supporting their valuable work. Our colleagues voted for the charity in their thousands and we look forward to working closely together over the next two years. We hope our support will make a real difference to Stroke Association’s work and overall aim to conquer stroke.”

The partnership also aims to raise awareness of the condition and inform people of the measures they can take to reduce their risk of having a stroke.

Jon Barrick, chief executive of the Stroke Association, said: “Our partnership with the Royal Mail is a fantastic opportunity to help us conquer stroke. The vital funds raised will support our Life After Stroke Grants: a lifeline which helps stroke survivors make their best possible recovery.

“Stroke is the killer disease that’s been ignored for too long. Through the incredible generosity of individuals and staff at Royal Mail Group, we can do even more to help transform the lives of people living with this devastating condition.”

Around 152,000 strokes take place in the UK every year and it is the leading cause of severe adult disability.

More than 1.2 million people in the UK have had a stroke. The Stroke Association supports survivors by providing various services.
