WITTY, fast paced and explosive, Solfatara from Barcelona based company Atresbandes brought the house down at Edinburgh Fringe last year.

This award winning piece of international theatre is touring the UK in October and will be at Bromsgrove's Artrix on Sunday, October 26.

The action takes place over a series of meals where a young couple are joined by a mysterious masked figure who dares them to voice their true feelings.

Eventually, a row over puff pastry causes frustrations to erupt with catastrophic honesty.

Solfatara is a geological term for vents in volcanic terrain emitting hot, sulphurous gases.

The piece explores the idea that we are also full of these phenomena, orifices that allow our insides to come to the surface.

Performed in Spanish with English surtitles, the translation takes on a subversive life of its own.

Atresbandes was formed in Barcelona in 2008 by performers Mònica Almirall, Miquel Segovia and Albert Pérez.

The piece is the company’s third together and is rapidly establishing their reputation as creators of sharp, perceptive work for international audiences.
