PLANS to revive Halesowen Carnival have been dealt a blow with the resignation of key committee members, just weeks after their appointment.

Chairman Simon Walker, who launched the bid to reinstate the event last held in 1987, is appealing for a replacement secretary and treasurer.

He said he thought the lack of support, when only a handful of people turned up to the last public meeting, after huge social media hype, was behind the resignations.

But he said three new volunteers had come forward to help following his online pleas.

He said: “At the end of the day, if people don’t want the carnival to happen, they should say so, rather than saying they support it and then doing nothing.”

Mr Walker, from Rowley Regis, has recently started a new job and has less time to devote to the event.

He added: “I am working 12 hours a day, plus three hours travelling time and need more help.

“We have other positions available like working with the schools and youth groups to get them involved in activities for the carnival.”
