THIS sight may have scared crows off, but these pupils were pleased to meet their 'idols' at a unique school festival.

Straw versions of Katy Perry, Simon Cowell and other famous people stood guard at Burlish Park Primary School in the playground as part of the sixth annual Scarecrow Festival.

Former headteacher Mrs Bickerton, who watched over the festival in previous years until she retired in August, even had straw coming out of her ears when she visited the display to meet Katy and Simon and tell current headteacher Paul Longden he had made this year a success.

This year’s theme was Famous People, and well-known people from the past, such as Florence Nightingale and Robin Hood, to modern day celebrities, such as Katy Price and Olaf the Snowman, were made especially for the occasion.

Mr Longden, who took over the role as head as the beginning of this academic year, said: "The response from our parents as always has been fantastic and the scarecrows become more creative each year. The children have clearly enjoyed their time making them and it is a great opportunity for children to work on something together with their parents."

Once the festival has ended, which coincided with the school's harvest festival celebrations, the scarecrows will move on to Stourport Bowling Club to help keep birds from damaging their premises.

Donations of food for Maggs Day Centre were given as part of the harvest festival and £50 of cash donations were sent to the school's charity, Water Aid.
