WORCESTERSHIRE County Council has been shortlisted in three categories of this year’s Local Government Chronicle Awards, recognising its work on transforming the way it delivers services during a time financial challenges posed by reducing funding levels.

The council has beaten off competition from around the country to make the final shortlist in Efficiency, Community Involvement and Transformation categories.

The Community Involvement submission focuses on the work of transforming the county Library Service with the council working with community groups and partners.

The BOLD (Better Outcomes, Lean Delivery) programme and subsequent FutureFit plan, to meet the financial challenges posed by reduced levels of funding have been recognised through the Efficiency award nomination in their ambition and track record of delivery.

The Transformation short listing recognises the council’s drive to promote flexible and mobile ways of working for staff, thereby reducing building costs.

Councillor Adrian Hardman, leader of Worcestershire County Council, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for three of this year’s LGC Awards. Everyone involved, whether that be staff, residents and members, deserve congratulation. There are up there as one of the most prestigious and recognised within our sector.

“It’s pleasing they highlight how we’ve involved local communities in our decisions and delivery during a period of financial challenge and transformation of how we operate. Obviously, it’s great to see us nominated but we’re also hopeful of taking the prizes in a few weeks’ time.

“The one thing that can be certain is that the hard work and dedication recognised through these nominations and will continue over the coming weeks, months and years ahead as we look to deliver for Worcestershire residents and businesses.”

The LGC stated it had received some 663 entries from over 200 organisations. Winners of the awards will be announced in March.
