ARMED Forces veterans who are struggling to adjust to life after the military can get help through a mentoring project launched by Dudley Council.

The Shoulder to Shoulder project will be delivered by national volunteering charity TimeBank on behalf of the council’s office of public health.

Veterans can face many challenges when adjusting to civilian life, including financial hardship, homelessness, depression and anxiety.

A series of drop-in sessions will be held at Dudley Fire Station, Burton Road on February 4 and March 12, where ex service personnel will receive practical advice and be able to discuss issues they are facing.

Sessions will also take place at Stourbridge Fire Station, Parkfield Road, on January 22, February 16 and March 26.

All events will take place between 10am and 1pm.

Andy Forster, programme manager at TimeBank’s Birmingham office, said: “TimeBank has 14 years of experience of volunteer mentoring projects, so we know how effective mentoring can be to help alleviate stress and isolation.

“We’re delighted that Dudley Council is funding this project to provide practical support for veterans across the borough to help them make a successful transition into civilian life.”
