A MAN was taken to hospital after a chip pan sparked a fire in his flat.

Crews from Redditch and Bromsgrove were called to the apartment in Fownhope Close, at around 8.20pm last night (Saturday January 24), where the blaze had broken out.

It was caused by a chip pan bursting into flame after being left unattended by the occupant.

One man suffered slight smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital for treatment, while there was only minor damage to the flat.

Crew Commander Simon Hawkins, from Redditch Fire Station, said: "It is very fortunate that there was only minor damage as a result of the fire. This highlights the potential dangers of leaving chip pans unsupervised."
