TOWN runners are being given chance to get on their running shoes for a charity event held annually as part of Bromsgrove Carnival.

The Timberhonger 10k and Children’s Challenge races are held at Sanders Park, Kidderminster Road, on the evening of Saturday, July 11, as part of the carnival weekend.

The route follows a challenging course down Timberhonger Lane, with a particularly tough hill at the 8,000 kilometre point.

New for runners this year is chip timing, which ensures everyone gets an accurate race time. Everyone also receives a Timberhonger race t-shirt.

There are also medals and a bottle of Birds beer for all finishers aged over 18.

Before the main event the popular Children's Challenge is held. Young runners taking part in the fun run, lasting just under a mile, receive a carnival medal when they cross the finish line.

Race director Mark Graham said: "Last year we raised £3,000.

"It would be great to do even better this year for our three race charities, Primrose Hospice, the Basement Project, and the Friends of the Princess of Wales Community Hospital."

Entry for the Timberhonger 10k costs £16, £14 for club runners. Runners must be 15 or over.

The Children's Challenge costs £6 to enter.

Roads along the route will be closed to traffic during the evening.

Registration for this year's Timberhonger 10k and Children’s Challenge is now open and keen runners can sign up for the races through the timberhonger10k.co.uk website.
