ENVIRONMENTALLY friendly chocolate fans can recycle their Easter Egg packaging at Sainsbury's in Oldbury and Blackheath.

From Friday, April 3 to Tuesday, April 14 the specially designed Easter recycling facility will allow customers to recycle the elements of Easter egg packaging – including plastic, card and paper.

The scheme makes it even easier to recycle the packaging from eggs, taking in materials like rigid plastic which not all local kerbside collections accept.

The Christmas card recycling scheme collected 88 tonnes of cards which amounted to a donation of £12,276 to the Forest Stewardship Council, helping to protect the world’s forests.

Sainsbury’s head of sustainability, engineering, energy and environment Paul Crewe said: "We’re proud to offer the recycling facility to our customers and colleagues.

"Recycling is an important part of Sainsbury’s environmental commitment and the Christmas card and Easter egg recycling schemes have been really popular in the past, it’s a great way of reminding people to recycle.’
