TRAINING sessions are being held at Stourbridge’s Crystal Leisure Centre for wannabe lifeguards to perfect their life saving skills.

A nationally recognised RLSS pool lifeguard course is being run at the Bell Street facility at the end of June.

Sessions will be held in the pool from Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 5.30pm, with an exam on Saturday June 27 at 5pm.

John Millar, acting strategic director for environment, economy and housing, said: “This course is an excellent way of broadening the job prospects of our young people looking to become lifeguards, or for keen swimmers wishing to expand their skills in the pool.”

Participants, who must be over 16 and expected to take a 15-minute swimming test, will receive a course manual and special tuition.

Those successfully completing the course, which costs £240 with a non refundable deposit of £50 paid at the time of the swimming test, will leave with an official lifeguard qualification and certificate.
