A STOURBRIDGE supermarket is urging its customers to help those in need by donating to its annual Neighbourhood Food Collection.

A collection stand will be in the town’s Tesco store until tomorrow (Saturday, July 4) where customers can buy a variety of long-life items and donate them back to the supermarket.

The Crown Centre supermarket and its charity partner FareShare will then re-distribute the products.

Wayne Barker, store manager, said: “Twice a year each Tesco store across the land holds an in-store food bank collection to support FareShare.

“Between today and Saturday we will sell food to our customers and they can donate them back to us, which we will in-turn distribute across the area.

“Last time we collected 2,500 meals and our target this year is 4,000, but we know we can make it because our customers are so generous and they are very knowledgeable about the situation of the current financial climate.

“We are a country that loves to help people and food banks are now part of our DNA.”

Stourbridge’s Tesco has a food collection point near the front of the store, and there will also be volunteers on hand to help.
