REDDITCH Borough Council has moved to ease weekend parking problems at Arrow Valley Country Park’s busy football pitches.

An extra 30 ‘overspill’ car parking spaces have been added to the existing Washford Lane car park that serves the park’s four football pitches, taking the on-site total to more than 80 spaces for the new season.

The borough council has worked closely with the local football leagues to ensure that clubs using the pitches at weekends understand the new parking arrangements and are more sensitive to residents’ needs.

Redditch Borough Councillor Pat Witherspoon, who is responsible for leisure services, said: “Local football being so popular may be a good problem to have, but trying to get down Washford Lane during some of the busier matchdays certainly was not.

“The 60 per cent increase in on-site parking should help residents and footballers and spectators alike from this season.”

The overspill parking, which is next to the existing car park, has been made out of a high density plastic honeycomb which supports vehicles and retains a more natural grassed surface.
