A REDDITCH man has been jailed for 14 years for stabbing his housemate and puncturing his lung.

Lukasz Luszcz, aged 32, left his victim, Mateusz Ferenc needing emergency life-saving surgery after the attack.

Luszcz, originally from Poland, denied stabbing Mr Ferenc but was earlier found guilty by a jury of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Judge Robert Juckes QC, who said it had “come close to attempted murder” jailed him for 14 years at Worcester Crown Court.

The trial had heard that Luszcz, of Bromsgrove Road, Redditch, found out by text message that he had lost his job and spent the rest of the day drinking.

He was sitting in his bedroom with his three housemates in the rented property and started to argue with one of them, Mr Ferenc.

Ian Ball, prosecuting, told the trial that Luszcz punched Mr Ferenc around the head and knocked him to the floor, where he carried on assaulting him.

Luszcz followed Mr Ferenc when he went into the bathroom, telling him to clean up the blood from his wounds.

But Luszcz then went out and returned with a bread knife, which he used to stab Mr Ferenc.

Mr Ball said Mr Ferenc suffered a punctured lung and underwent a life-saving operation at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

Luszcz left the house after the incident at about 10.30 pm on February 18 this year and Mr Ferenc at first did not realise how badly he was hurt, the jury heard.

Mr Ferenc lay down on the floor and one of his housemates wrapped him in coats and jackets and called an ambulance.

Police cordoned off the house and arrested Luszcz after he returned from his trip to buy more beer.

Forensic tests showed he had matching bloodstains on his clothes.
