A REDDITCH-based firm has been hailed one of the safest around after winning a prestigious award.

GKN Plc, a manufacturer of aerospace and automotive systems, scooped the regional Health and Safety Award in the EEF Future Manufacturing Awards.

The prize is given to the manufacturer that achieved the most impressive or innovative improvements in the health and safety culture of their workplace.

The awards ceremony was held at At-Bristol, a leading UK science centre and education charity.

The company was selected by a panel of judges drawn from business leaders, industry experts and academics.

Martin Smith, health, safety and environment director at GKN, said: "This award is down to our team’s hard work and dedication, and we are delighted to have won.

"Not only does it demonstrate the valuable contribution made by local manufacturers like ourselves, but it also puts us on the map as a modern and innovative company- safety is our number one priority.

"This is great news for us to share with all our staff, customers and suppliers."

The company will now compete for the national title in the finals being held in London this January.
