A CONMAN who fleeced music fans by selling fake concert tickets has been told he is going to prison.

Matthew Thompson pocketed more than £4,600 by ripping people off - just weeks after he was allowed to keep his freedom for similar offending.

The 36-year-old claimed he could supply tickets to see acts including One Direction, Michael Buble and Lady Gaga but those who handed over money were left bitterly disappointed.

Thompson, of Tudor Vale, Lower Gornal, admitted 12 charges involving fraud and false representation involving a total of £2,110.

He also asked the court to take into consideration 14 other offences in which he conned customers out of a total of £2,526.

Timothy Hannan, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court they were specimen offences committed by Thompson, who had also breached his suspended prison sentence.

When he pleaded guilty earlier to similar offending he was given a 20 week jail term, suspended for two years, coupled with supervision and 200 hours unpaid work.

Gurdeep Garcha, defending Thompson, said: "He is well aware that only a prison sentence can follow because these new offences were committed shortly after his last sentence.

"I have made it plain to him that he will be going to prison."

He told the court that Thompson had an alcohol problem and maintained it was essential a medical report was obtained before the case could be finalised.

The reports, stressed Mr Garcha, will determine just how long Thompson will have to spend behind bars.

Recorder Geoffrey Kelly remanded Thompson on bail until June 10 when it expected he will be sentenced for the new offences.

Mr Hannan said Thompson would also have to face a further court appearance in the future under the Proceeds of Crime Act when his assets could be seized.
