AT least 20,000 foodies from far and wide turned out for Alcester's spring food festival.

The free event, held on Saturday, May 21, had more stalls than ever before, with at least 130 lining the High Street offering a vast array of quality and unique produce.

During the event, organised by the Alcester and Forest of Arden Food Festival group, visitors could tour St Nicholas' Church, including its tower from which they could see the whole of Alcester, and make a donation to the restoration fund.

Chairman of the Forest of Arden Food Festival Steven Brown said: "It was very successful. How do you measure that success? I had lots of comments- people who thought it was fantastic.

"A lot of stall holders sold out- they were happy. The next festival is on October 15 and stalls are already 90 per cent full.

"We want to keep improving the quality and variety."

He added that one visitor had travelled from Canterbury, specifically for the festival and another came from Texas.
