TWO Second World War hand grenades have been found in Alcester over the weekend.

They were located by a resident in an outbuilding of an Evesham Street property on Saturday, August 27.

An explosive ordnance disposal unit attended the scene and removed the grenades. They were safely detonated in a nearby field.

The devices were disposed of safely and there was no risk to the public. There were no injuries.

A police spokesman said:"We were called shortly before 10.40am on Saturday, August 27 following a report that two grenades, believed to be historic, had been found at a property on Evesham Street, Alcester."

Ministry of defence spokesman confirmed that they were contacted by West Mercia Police at 12.15pm and a unit from Ashchurch in Gloucestershire attended to the scene.

They added that two number 36 grenades were destroyed by explosive demolition.
