A BURGLAR from Rowley Regis dropped a clanger when he took his booty in a distinctive bag to his girlfriend's home after a Halesowen raid.

The Pokémon bag was recognised as identical to one owned by a friend of the family who were the victims of the attack.

And when the woman who was a pal of Ali Alnamari's girlfriend later checked with the family she discovered they had been the victims of a break-in.

The 19-year-old got into the house in Elizabeth Road through an unlocked ground floor window and he escaped with electrical goods including two games consoles.

He also took car keys which were used to open and search two vehicles parked on the driveway of the property, said Sati Ruck prosecuting.

She told Wolverhampton Crown Court that Alnamari went with the stolen property to the home of his girlfriend and the owner's niece just happened to be in the property.

Mr Ruck added: "She recognised the bag being carried by Alnamari as the same as one owned by her friend."

Alnamari of Wendover Road, Rowley Regis admitted burglary and he was given eight months detention suspended for two years.

He was further ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work in the community and ordered to seek help for his drug and alcohol problems.

The court was told Alnamari who had previous convictions for offences including theft and robbery had little recollection of the raid because of drugs and alcohol.
