ALL Redditch Councillors will now be getting training on how to use social media responsibly.

The motion was proposed by Councillor Juliet Brunner at a recent council meeting.

It comes after Cllr Brunner, as well as Councillor Anita Clayton, were both recent victims of cyber bullying.

Cllr Brunner said: "Social media is part of the fabric of modern society. It allows us to create, broadcast and spread ideas and opinions faster and further than ever before.

"It has also revolutionised the way we, as community leaders, communicate with our residents and share news and information.

"It is therefore incumbent upon us as councillors to be both morally and socially responsible in its use."

She added: "Last week the Positive Activities group I chair was interviewed for the young people's metal health task and finish group, and it was made clear to us that abuse of social media is one the biggest issues facing young people in our town.

"Cyber bullying, revenge porn and ill thought out posts have a major detrimental effect on the mental health of Redditch young people.

"As community leaders it is important we lead by example."
