DEAF and visually-impaired people could be the latest to suffer due to budget cuts in Sandwell.

The council is seeking the views of local people on the future of two groups who work with deaf and visually-impaired people.

It has launched a consultation on the future funding for the Sandwell Deaf Community Association (SDCA) and Sandwell Visually Impaired (SVI).

These organisations provide a range of support for local people with sensory impairment.

Cradley Heath and Old Hill Councillor Ann Shackleton, cabinet member for social care, said the council wanted the views of local people before making a final decision on the future of the groups.

She said: “As we try to deal with the biggest budget cuts in our history, we are seeking views on the proposals for future funding arrangements.

“We will welcome feedback from anyone with an interest in SDCA and SVI, including professionals and other local organisations who may work with them.

She added: “In addition to an online survey we are holding a special event for people to have their say.”

People who want to take part in the consultation process should complete both surveys online until Monday, December 19, go to www.sandwell.gov.uk/consultations The council is also offering an additional way of responding to the consultation at Oldbury Library, Jack Judge House on Thursday, December 8. An informal stall, organised for people who would like to complete a hard copy of the survey, will be available between 10am and 2.30pm.
