REDDITCH is set to benefit from a share of £50 million as part of the Homelessness Prevention Programme.

Announced earlier this week by Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, the Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP, Redditch was among six Worcestershire authorities to be awarded a share of £390,259 as part of a Rough Sleeping Fund to help new rough sleepers, or people at imminent risk of sleeping rough, get the rapid support they need to recover and move on from a rough sleeping crisis.

Redditch MP Karen Lumley said she was delighted with the news.

“One person without a home is one too many," said the MP.

"This money will provide vital support for people at risk of homelessness, as well as people who have slept rough for a number of years.

“It has been highlighted to me only recently that there are rough sleepers on the streets of Redditch, and this new money will provide the rapid support they need to make a sustainable recovery from homelessness.

"Local authorities will be able to use this funding to bring together a range of local partners to provide an innovative approach to tackling homelessness, with prevention at its heart.”
