HUNDREDS of people have registered their interest in a new £10.5m retirement living scheme in Stourport, figures have revealed.

Bromford have said more than 280 people have signalled their interest in School Gardens - a scheme featuring 60 high-quality retirement living apartments for over 55s.

Construction work is well underway at the historic site where Tan Lane Infants School, and later Stourport First School, stood for decades from 1897.

As part of the development, the original school is being renovated and converted into three apartments.

A marketing suite is due to open on the site in March and once prices are confirmed, the application process will open to prospective residents.

Penny Downing, Bromford's marketing and sales director, said: "We truly believe School Gardens will give people a new zest for life.

"There will be lots of facilities on site for people to stay fit, active and healthy but there will also be onsite care and support for residents that need it.

"We know it's a big step for people and we want people to feel reassured and energised throughout the whole process and take that fear factor away for them.

"That is why we want to take the time for prospective residents to get to know us and us to know them."

She added: "We are delighted by the interest being shown by so many people and it just reinforces our belief that our new retirement living homes will become popular fixtures in our communities - combining bespoke care packages with a vibrant and lively place to live and grow.

"For us, it is important to have a balanced, diverse community of people and that is why we will take absolutely everything into account when we start receiving application forms."

The range of one and two bedroom apartments will include options for rent or buy - and there will also be a cafe bistro, lounge, activity studio, gym, hair and beauty salon, landscaped gardens and ample car parking.

Bromford hosted a Christmas party at Stourport Manor Hotel, in December, where more than 100 potential residents enjoyed 1940s and 1950s classics from swing band, the Bluebird Belles.
