PEOPLE are being invited to get a glimpse of what the new Dudley Museum and Art Gallery could look like when the collections are moved to the borough's archives building.

The decision to close the St James's Road museum and relocate its treasures to the Tipton Road centre caused controversy but Dudley Council hopes people will attend two drop in sessions to see what the future holds for the museum, which is set to open in autumn.

The first session will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) from 10am to 12noon and the second will take place on January 24, between 2pm and 4pm.

Visitors will have the opportunity to chat to staff about the plans and see 3D drawings of initial ideas around layouts and displays.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for planning and economic development, said: “The collections enjoyed many happy years at the old building but these proposals are about building something sustainable for the future.

“I hope people will take the time to come along and find out about this exciting move to the Archives and discover how we are planning to celebrate this borough’s unique and fascinating history.”

Council bosses say the new museum, which will be at the heart of the tourism hub at Castle Hill - alongside the Black Country Living Museum and Dudley Zoo and Castle - will have improved parking for visitors and school trips as well as better access for people with disabilities.
