A BROMSGROVE teenager has taken his love of games consoles to a new level after playing his Xbox One for 36 hours straight to raise money for a charity close to his heart.

Kyle Davies, 14, challenged himself to the mega game-a-thon to raise money for Cancer Research UK, streaming the event live from his room on internet video site twitch.tv.

He played his way through his favourite game FIFA 17 over the weekend of February 18, and raised an amazing £1,009 for his efforts – more than triple his initial target.

The Year 10 student at South Bromsgrove High School said: “I love games. Ever since I was a kid I have got really into it. That is the reason I started streaming my games online.

“I decided to do something good and raise money from it. I wanted to raise £300 but in the end I raised £1,000 from family and the viewers watching me.

“I played against some of my viewers from around the world. I had up to 100 people at one point watching me. It was absolutely crazy.

“I was ill beforehand so I wasn’t sure if I could do it but it is for a great cause and raising the money motivated me to get through it.”

Kyle was supported by parents Chris and Sandra, who played their part by supplying him with drinks such as Lucozade and Red Bull to ensure his energy levels remained high.

Mum Sandra, 44, said: “It was all his idea so we’re very proud of him. It is for a good cause and for a charity close to his heart which is why he wanted to do it.

“He had a cold leading up to it and we did not think he was going to be up for it but he was so determined to do it. He wants a job playing games now!”
