THE Red Lion in Alvechurch will be given a new lease of life this month thanks to a £210K revamp.

The pub is set to undergo a major overhaul to its bar and dining area as well as doubling the front of house team to 18 members.

The overhaul will see the pub temporarily close on Monday, March 27 to allow for works to begin, before re-opening on April 5.

General manager at the Red Lion, Rebecca Spence, has been at the helm for over two years and is keen to extend the pub's welcoming family environment.

She said: “The Red Lion is in a perfectly central location in Alvechurch, making it the heart of the community – and we are really enthusiastic to fill that position and encourage local residents to drink and dine with us.

“We also want to encourage those from further afield to come along, with great walking routes and an accessible car park with over 25 spaces – those looking for a charming and rustic country pub don’t need to look any further."

At the centre of the pub’s overhaul is the renovation of the reception, bar and dining area which will be given a facelift to give it a brighter and more spacious feel.

Along with the revamp, The Red Lion has expanded its front of house team by nine members, all of which are from the Alvechurch area, reflecting the sense of community the pub is keen to promote.

To celebrate, there will be a VIP launch event on Friday, April 7 between 6pm and 8pm.

Originally occupied by a row of old cottages, the site upon which The Red Lion stands dates back to the 1700s. Before the existence of the police force, the building was used as meeting place for landowners to discuss the activities of thieves and trespassers.
