BLOODWISE charity in Bromsgrove is aiming to bring its 30-year fundraising total to £1million with its upcoming fun run.

Since the branch opened in 1988, it has raised £943,300 to fund vital research into blood cancer related illnesses.

There are two runs taking place this year - a 10k route which starts from Walnut Lane in Finstall at 11am and a 5k event at Bromsgrove Rugby Club at 11.10am, both taking place on Sunday, May 7.

Charity chairman Nicole Harris said: "This race means a great deal to me as we started the first run six weeks after my nine-year-old son Marc died of leukaemia in 1989. The race has grown bigger each year and many people have taken part year after year. It is very heartwarming and we are very grateful for the generosity of the Bromsgrove public."

Each participant will receive a medal and anyone who has raised more than £25 before the day will be given a free Bloodwise t-shirt. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest men and women.

Entry costs £14 and spaces are limited to 500 runners.

Food stalls, a barbecue, massage facilities, changing rooms, water stops and car parking will be available on the day.
