DUDLEY Zoo’s loveable Bornean orangutan, Sprout, woke up to a pile of presents this morning to celebrate her sixth birthday.

Keepers left the wrapped gifts outside for the birthday girl to discover and she couldn’t wait to unwrap the paper to get to the tasty treats hidden inside.

Bromsgrove Advertiser:

“We filled boxes with some of Sprout’s favourite foods, including seeds, primate pellets, tamarin pods and vegetables, which we wrapped in children’s colourful wrapping paper.” said keeper Sian-Leigh Simner.

“As soon as she spotted them she was straight over and began unwrapping them one-by-one, she even gave mum, Jazz, one to open, but made sure she kept the bigger boxes for herself!”

Bromsgrove Advertiser:

Zoo bosses are asking people to help celebrate Sprout’s birthday by making a donation to the orangutan enclosure appeal.

The new outdoor area for the critically endangered great apes will cost £800,000.

Donations can be made via www.justgiving.com/dudleyzoologicalgardens or by texting DZ0037 and the desired amount to 70070.
