A SOLDIER based in Redditch has won a prestigious accolade after finishing his recruit training.
Scottish-born Guardsman Kevin McPhillips, 26, recently completed the Combat Infantryman’s Course at the Infantry Training Centre in Catterick, North Yorkshire.
He was awarded the Best Drill and Turnout prize.
His platoon commander, Lieutenant Richard Phillips, said: “The Best Drill and Turnout award goes to the recruit who has achieved the best standard of foot drill and turnout throughout the course and will pass out knowing he is the smartest Guardsman on parade in the platoon.
He received his award at the pass out parade ceremony at the Infantry Training Centre last week.
He said: “I always knew wanted to be in the Army and after joining the Territorial Army in April last year I realised quickly that I wanted more. My family were unsure of my choice at first but since I’ve been training they have come round to the idea of it.
He will now complete two weeks’ driver training before joining F Company Scots Guards based in London.
