"BE alert not alarmed." That is the message to Redditch shoppers following the announcement that new security measures are to be put in place at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.

Following the announcement that the UK’s terror threat has been raised to critical in the wake of Manchester terror attack on Monday, the centre has introduced extra security measures to protect staff and customers.

People entering the centre from today (Wednesday, May 24) will be delayed while security precautions are put in place.

Staff working at the centre before 8am have been issued designated entry points.

Kingfisher Shopping Centre manager Ken Williams said: "We are implementing changes to enhance the protection of our customers and staff during the increased threat level.

"We thank customers and staff for their patience, support and understanding. Be alert, not alarmed."

A Kingfisher Shopping Centre spokesman added: "We can confirm that Kingfisher is open as normal, however, we have minimal restricted access across the centre as a precaution.

"We have extensive security measures in place and our teams work closely with local and national authorities to share intelligence and remain aligned to the very latest national security guidance. The safety of shoppers and staff is always our first priority."
