AN eight-year-old girl from Bromsgrove, whose auntie, nan, great-grandmother and great-aunt have all been diagnosed with breast cancer, is training to run the Race for Life.

Millfields First School pupil Maisie Bedford came up with the idea to tackle the fundraiser at Arrow Valley Park after her mum Charlotte suffered her own cancer scare this year.

Charlotte Bedford, 30, said: "Breast cancer is a huge issue in our family, with my nan, auntie, mum, and sister all being diagnosed at least once. My other sister had her breasts off as a precaution, so when I had my scare in March, I was convinced I would have it and decided to be open with Maisie to prepare for the worse.

"Luckily I have been given the all clear and currently have scans every six months instead of every 12. Maisie is very sensitive and said she wanted to do the race with me so we'll be doing the 5k Redditch Race for Life together on June 11 to raise money for Cancer Research and Maisie is determined to raise as much as possible.

"I'm hoping to get her the recognition she deserves. She has a heart of gold with no confidence, but knowing she is raising money for cancer makes her very proud."

Charlotte and Maisie have set up a fundraising page to collect donations and have already raised nearly £500 towards their goal.
