A NETHERTON drug addict who robbed a pensioner after barging into his home with a knife has been jailed for eight years.

"Give me money. I don't want to use this," Steven Davis told the vulnerable man as he produced the weapon.

The 44-year-old pushed the man into his home after he had answered the door and during a short struggle he nicked him on the chin with the weapon, said Caroline Harris, prosecuting.

She told Wolverhampton Crown Court that Davis - who had 170 previous crimes on his record - took £110 money from the wallet of the man, who has restricted mobility and lives alone.

After his arrest Davis' clothing was found to have blood stains matching that of the pensioner's.

In a victim impact statement the man told police he had been the targeted for another robbery just three years earlier and he was now too frightened to open his front door.

He said he was worried about being attacked in the future adding: "This man was not afraid to use violence to get into my house. I don't think I will ever get over it."

Hill, of Cole Street, admitted robbery and he was told by Recorder Michelle Heeley QC he had committed a "nasty" offence.

"This was a vulnerable man living alone and you knew he had money in the house," she said, adding: "I accept you set out to frighten this man - not to cause him any injury."

Samantha Powis, defending, told the court that Davis had returned to using drugs when his partner became ill.

"He is deeply sorry and ashamed about what he has done," she added.

"He has known this man for some years and they always got on well."

She said the offence marked a low point in the life of Davis who had managed to stay drug free for many years before going back to his "repeated use".
