A MAGICAL walking trail is going to light up the streets from Stourbridge to Wordsley during the International Festival of Glass.

The ‘Window Wanderland’ trail is encouraging residents and businesses to make an illuminated display in their front windows and gardens in late August.

As a fun event, the trail is offering a creative opportunity to light up the community, while resident can walk around their neighbourhoods and enjoy them in a whole new light.

The Window Wanderland project was started by Lucy Reeves in Bristol in February 2015, but Wordsley resident Sarah New is organising the event here as part of the glass festival.

The biennial international event will take place from August 25 to 28 across the Stourbridge glass quarter, and organisers are asking those who line the festival route to take part by making a display.

Janine Christley, director of the festival, which has provided funding for the Window Wanderland to be brought to the area, said: “The display can be big or small, from a simple string of fairy lights in your garden to a display of something ‘glass’ in your window, for example your favourite vase or picture frames – it’s totally up to you as anything goes.

“People travel to the festival from far and wide, including international visitors, and this project provides an ideal opportunity for local people to participate in the festival and show off their town.”

Everyone is invited to take part and participating addresses will be put onto a map to form a walking trail as part of the glass festival celebrations.

The trail is set to be a taster for a bigger Window Wanderland event taking place in Wordsley in March 2018.
