PRIMARY schoolchildren have buried a time capsule in the grounds of a soon-to-be-opened luxury care home in Bromsgrove.

A Blackwell First School calendar, new £1 coin, photographs of Princess Charlotte and Prince George, fidget spinner and a newspaper were all packed into the capsule and buried on the site of The Lodge at Burcot Grange, which is expected to open this autumn.

The £4.6million facility, which began construction by Clegg Construction last August, will provide 54 ensuite bedrooms, hairdressing salon, landscaped gardens and coffee shop adjacent to the existing Burcot Grange care home in Greenhill.

Simon Blackburn, managing director at Clegg, said: "We were delighted to be part of this very special community event to celebrate the new building at Burcot Grange.

“We would like to thank the children from Blackwell First School for their time and creativity in coming up with ideas for items for the time capsule, which we hope will delight future generations when it is unearthed.”

The project was designed to engage students with history in a real-life experience.

Vicky Osborne, General Manager of The Lodge at Burcot Grange, said: "The time capsule will celebrate the uniqueness of the local community, and the school children have delivered on some wonderful ideas for its contents.

"We are thrilled with the diversity that the local community brings to Burcot Grange and we really look forward to welcoming them to The Lodge."

Blackwell First headteacher Anne Moss added: "We wish everyone at Burcot all the best with their new home.”
