TWO elderly men had a lucky escape after a small plane crashed at Halfpenny Green Airport.
The left wing of the light aircraft was ripped off after it overshot a runway at the Bobbington airport and careered through a hedge at 11.40am this morning (Thursday).
The plane went onto the road in Water Lane and through another hedge before it came to rest in a field.
Airport firefighters were on scene immediately, closely followed by paramedics and the Midlands Air Ambulance team from Cosford.
One of the men, who had suffered a head injury, cuts and bruises, was taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton as a precaution.
The other man had a minor facial injury but chose not to go to hospital.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Thankfully, neither of the occupants were seriously hurt and both were able to get out of the aircraft.
“Considering what had happened to the aircraft, both man had got away remarkably unscathed.”
