THE maintenance and restoration of St John's church in Bromsgrove has been handed a boost after a donation of £250.

Friends of St John’s received the money which was donated by the town's newest care home Chandler Court, on Recreation Road.

Chairman of the Friends of St John's, Jo Slade, said, “For thousands of years a building has stood on this hill, and over time it has been used as a meeting place, a market, a place for worship, and most importantly a place for the community.

“We are delighted to receive this donation from Chandler Court and are keen to build on this new relationship when the home opens next year.

"On behalf of everyone at Friends of St John's I would like to thank Jo, Chip and the team at Chandler Court for their generosity.”

The organisation hosts regular events and fundraising initiatives throughout the year to raise much-needed funds.

Jo Gill, manager of the care home, which is due to open in early 2018, said: “As we step ever-closer to opening the doors here in Bromsgrove, it’s important we build relationships with the local community and ensure we are making a positive impact on the town.

“Bromsgrove has so much heritage and culture that we wanted to help preserve just one part of this with our donation to Friends of St John’s.

"We are thrilled to be working with the charity and are already discussing future projects as we prepare to welcome the first residents to Chandler Court.”
