REDDITCH soldier Major Sandy Hennis is just days away from completing a gruelling three-month trek of Antarctica – making history in the process.
Major Hennis and five others from the British Army’s ‘Ice Maiden’ Expedition team are currently in the last few hundred kilometres of their epic 1700km journey.
If successful they will become the first all-female team to cross the continent by muscle power alone.
Team member Lieutenant Jenni Stephenson, posting an update on their exicemaiden.com blog, said: “We estimate only four more sleeps until we finish.
“Even if we have managed to encourage just one person through our exploits I will class this as a huge success.”
Once they have completed their journey, they will be flown to Union Glacier before being travelling to Chile where their recovery will begin.
They are due to return to the UK at the beginning of February.
