A CHARITY helping adults to learn to read is being launched in Wyre Forest following a successful public meeting.

Wyre Forest Read Easy Group is set to start working in the district and Cleobury Mortimer area this year and is appealing for more volunteers to support the project.

Read Easy UK was set up in 2011 to tackle the ‘invisible’ problem of adults who struggle with reading.

A public meeting was held in Kidderminster Library in October and a committee formed. Coaches will now meet with people twice a week and work through reading materials.

The Read Easy Wyre Forest Management Team, who are all volunteers, is still looking for someone with fundraising experience to join the Committee.

It is also working to gain local support and attract the attention of sponsors for the project, from helping with accommodation to funding reading materials and training.

Chairman-elect Steve Peckham said: “We now have a Management Committee in place preparing to push ahead with finding a local co-ordinator, before moving on to appoint our first reading coaches.

“This is such an exciting and worthwhile scheme. I don’t think many of us can really appreciate what a profound effect the gift of reading can have in changing the life of someone who has always struggled with reading.”
