A WOMAN was grabbed by the back of her neck during an assault in Redditch.

The woman, who is in her 40s, was walking up the alleyway behind the premises at the junction of Birchfield Road and Mason Road when a man grabbed her.

The woman sustained injuries to her neck and pushed the man away before running off.

It is reported the offender smelt of alcohol.

West Mercia Police is appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place between 7.45pm and 8.13pm on Tuesday, March 6.

Investigating officer, PC Danny Fulford from Redditch Police Station, said: "This was, understandably, a traumatic ordeal for the victim and we have launched a thorough investigation to try and identify the offender.

"We are appealing for witnesses who may have been within the area around the stated times, or who may have any information that may be relevant to please come forward.

"I would ask anyone with any information to contact us on 101, quoting incident number 740s of 6 March 2018."
