A NEW musical theatre production entitled 'Women of Longbridge' will be celebrating the life stories of local ladies past and present.

Developed from research by Women & Theatre, Women of Longbridge is an interactive production performed by cast members from the Longbridge community.

The performance will move through the town centre on Saturday, June 23, and will feature an original song written by participants.

Andrea Clarke, property manager at St Modwen, which is behind Longbridge town centre's development, said: "Women of Longbridge is an inspirational project that will celebrate the stories of local women.

"We’re committed to creating a strong community, and projects like this gives locals the chance to get involved and enjoy everything that Longbridge has to offer.

"We look forward to seeing what local stories can be brought to life through this unique project.”

There will be three performances during the day at 11am, 3pm and 6pm. All are free to attend.

Jo Gleave, lead artist practitioner for Women & Theatre, said: "It's important to be able to tell the story of Longbridge from the women's perspectives.

"The performance acknowledges the significant changes that have happened here and the impact that this has had on women's lives and the area.

"It celebrates the strong sense of community in the face of adversity and political change and champions hope for the future women of Longbridge."

The project has been developed in partnership with Friends of Longbridge Open Spaces and is funded by Birmingham City Council, Arts Council England, The Cole Charitable Trust, The John Freeney Charitable Trust, The Grimmitt Trust and The Harry Payne Fund.
