A DELIGHTED Stourport beauty queen is gearing up for national glory after making it through to the Miss England finals.

Sophie Blundell, who is currently Miss Wyre Forest, was overjoyed when her name was read out read out at the regional finals, held at Kelham Hall in Nottinghamshire earlier this month.

The 24-year-old will be bidding for glory when she competes alongside 50 other finalists from across the country later this month.

Her day started with her registering the charity funds she had collected along with publicity material and social media votes she had earned.

She then wore her eco-dress made out of recycled material including old curtains and parts of her sister’s wedding dress to recreate Princess Diana’s own wedding dress back in 1981, for a photo shoot.

After pre-judging and catwalk rehearsals, they went straight into make-up ready for showtime where they showed off their eco-dresses and evening wear in front of the audience, including Sophie’s mum Lynette Blundell and her nan Linda Yates – who was also celebrating her birthday!

Sophie said: “I feel so privileged to be noticed by the 11 judges. During the results I was incredibly nervous.

“When my name was called tears of happiness rolled down my face with the biggest smile, as I knew all my hard work has paid off and I was now in the national finals of the only competition in England that goes to Miss World!

“To say I'm excited is an understatement. It’s time to up my game even more and aim towards reaching the Miss England Crown but I could not be here today without all the people who have supported me.”

She added: “Mum and nan were just so happy for me. Mum was crying but I was delighted to give my nan an extra birthday present!

“All the girls were great and so supportive of one another too.”

Part One of the final, including a sports round, will be held at Resorts World in Birmingham on July 26 and 27.

The second part will see her back at Kelham Hall in September where they will go ‘Glamping’ and go through talent and eco rounds.
