A NEW police campaign to tackle serious and organised crime launched earlier this week with an operation to tackle car key burglary.

Officers from West Mercia Police, Warwickshire Police and West Midlands Police conducted warrants at various business and residential premises throughout the region, including at a garage in Redditch.

The activity was part of Protect, which will see police working closely with partner agencies to tackle serious and organised crime (SOC) and the damage it causes our communities.

The activity was organised after a series of car key burglaries throughout West Mercia and Warwickshire, in which high value cars have been stolen from drives.

Officers hope the activity will send a strong message to travelling criminals coming into the area to commit offences.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen goods and possession of a firearm and has been remanded in custody, and a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary has been released on police bail.
