A PUB in Hay-on-Wye has been put on the map by offering a Sunday roast eating challenge.

Diners who visit the Rose and Crown in Broad Street on a Sunday have 25 minutes to eat a huge portion of roast dinner.

If they don't eat it all within that time they have to pay £14.50 for the meal.

Landlord Tyrone Metcalfe started offering eating challenges at the pub within the last few weeks and he said it "has gone mad."

A post on their Facebook page showing the roast challenge has had 21,460 shares and more than 35,000 likes.

The 33-year-old said: "We are fully booked for Sunday. A couple are coming from Tenby to try it. People are coming from everywhere."

Mr Metcalfe, who is a builder, said the food is all cooked to order by chef Luke Powell.

As well as the Super Sunday roast challenge, the pub also offers a 32oz steak challenge, a chicken wings contest, and a burger stack competition.

Mr Metcalfe said: "The steak challenge - 20 people have tried it and only one person has completed it."

He said he thinks it is so popular due to the competitive element and the chance that it could be free.

Mr Metcalfe took on the pub 12 months ago. He said: "There were no pubs for youngsters or for sport. I took it on and turned it into a sports bar but also made sure it was family orientated."
