A LONG-serving employee of a Halesowen company – admired for her ‘can do’ attitude – has been honoured with a top company accolade.

Angela Melrose, contact lens manager at Scrivens Opticians’ lens manufacturer Mersona Ltd, was commended for her skills and work ethic when she received the prestigious Sasha Georgevic Award.

The award is given in memory of the company’s late chairman, and father to present chairman, Nicholas Georgevic and director Mark Georgevic.

A delighted Angela, who lives in Oldbury, said: “I felt overwhelmed when I heard my name announced and happy too. I’d like to thank everyone who nominated me.

“When I joined the business 18 years ago I started on the phones and was concerned people would not understand my Scottish accent.

“My career has developed since then and I now help to make sure the contact lens department runs smoothly, liaising with Scrivens branches to meet their contact lens orders.”

The Sasha Georgevic Award is open for all Scrivens employees with a minimum of five years’ service and nominations are made by colleagues.

Final selection is made by Nicholas and Mark Georgevic based on outstanding contribution to the business and its customers, total commitment and all round dedication to Scrivens.

Nicholas added: “Angela clearly demonstrates just about all the traits of what we think is representative of the perfect employee and work colleague.

“She was described in one nomination as ‘doing everything possible to make the impossible possible’, which is a fantastic sentiment.”

He added: “The award is well deserved.”
