HALESOWEN councillors are cleaning up their act as part of a national campaign.

The ‘Big Belle Vale Clean Up’ has been launched alongside this year’s Great British Spring Clean.

Belle Vale councillors Simon Phipps and Laura Taylor and local campaigner Jake Cooper have organised a series of litter picks, beginning in the Highfields Estate and Bundle Hill on March 10.

Cllr Phipps said: “Last year we took part in events for the Great British Spring Clean but this year we thought we would take things a step further.

“We’ll be holding several community litter picks aiming to tackle litter and help make sure we’re all able to take pride in our area.”

Residents were asked the areas they thought needed to be cleaned to determine where the Clean Up should go.

Local campaigner Jake Cooper said: “We’ve had a lot of responses and I hope that our litter picks will go some way to addressing areas of concern raised by local residents.”

Other litter picks this month will take place in the Bath Meadow and Furnace Hill areas.

There will be a community clean-up in Highfields Park, held in conjunction with the Highfield Park Allotment Association, and a Hawne Park woodland maintenance work party organised by the Friends of Hawne Park.

This Saturday’s event will start at 1.30pm behind the Hope Centre, in Andrew Road. Anybody interested in take part should contact Cllr Simon Phipps on 07966 992147 or by emailing cllr.simon.phipps@dudleymbc.org.uk.
