COMMUNITY heroes from Kidderminster were honoured in an inaugural awards scheme for the town.

Kidderminster Town Council held its first Community Awards event with more than 100 guests attending the presentation hosting by Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion.

The awards are aimed at recognising the efforts of individuals, projects and organisations whose dedication and commitment have improved the lives and well-being of residents.

A winner was chosen from each of the town’s six wards. At the Town Hall bash, catering and photography was provided by students from The Academy.

Councillor Nicky Gale, Mayor of Kidderminster, said: “We believe these Awards are important.

“The pace with which we live our lives today often stops us from appreciating the small kindnesses and gratitude that makes a big difference in the community. It was an honour to support this occasion – a first for the Council.”

Among the winners was Eric Mole, from Offmore & Comberton ward, who was honoured for more than 60 years’ dedicated service to the Boys Brigade.

The other winners were Pat Simmonds from Aggborough and Spennells, Katherine and Peter Jezukiewicz from Foley Park and Hoobrook, Brenda Lines from Broadwaters, Heather Prangley from Blakebrook & Habberley South and Rob Palmer from Franche and Habberley North.
