A CRACKDOWN on fraud and misuse of Blue Badges will take place across Bromsgrove.

Inspections, led by Bromsgrove District Council, will be carried out by community and environmental protection officers and civil enforcement officers in locations across the district with on-street disabled parking and car parks.

Exactly when and where they will be carried out is not being disclosed, to ensure the campaign isn't compromised.

A spokesman for Worcestershire County Council, which is supporting the scheme, said: "When a badge is misused, genuine Blue Badge holders lose out on access to disabled parking bays which are closer to shops and services, to allow for easier accessibility and wider to accommodate using a mobility aid."

Government statistics suggest there are 2.6million badges in circulation, 20 per cent of which are estimated to be misused, with a total cost to the economy of £46million.
