THE city’s famed porcelain expert Henry Sandon will display two royal wares on a special episode of Antiques Roadshow next week.

Mr Sandon will talk about two models, both of which were made in the county, during the show’s coronation special on Monday night.

One of the items is a Royal Worcester model of Princess Elizabeth trooping the colour on a police horse called Tommy, while the other is a Malvern-manufactured Bronte Porcelain piece of the Queen’s favourite riding horse.

The BBC programme will air in the same week as the 65th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation.

Mr Sandon still remembers witnessing the coronation in London in 1953.

He said: “I watched it in the rain. I was looking in the window of a TV shop in Oxford Street.

“Then the procession came along Oxford Street. I saw her.”

Mr Sandon, aged 89, has had the pleasure of meeting the Queen several times since that day.

He said: “It’s a wonderful thing. She’s a wonderful woman. She’s the longest serving monarch anywhere in the world.

“It’s a very royal year with the wedding of Harry and Meghan.”

He added that he enjoyed recording the Antiques Roadshow episode, which was filmed last year specifically for the coronation.

The show took place aboard the Queen’s former ship, the Royal Yacht Britannia, in Edinburgh.

Mr Sandon said: “It’s a glorious boat.

"I’ll be showing the Royal Worcester model of the Queen trooping the colour.

“She’s in full regalia, regimental uniform. It was her first trooping... some years before the coronation.

“She took the trooping of the colour when the king was ill.

“I also talk about another model by Bronte. It’s a model of her favourite riding horse, her pony.”

The Royal Worcester piece is kept at the Museum of Royal Worcester.

Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation took place on June 2, 1953.

The Antiques Roadshow’s coronation special will air on BBC One at 8.30pm on Monday.
