POWICK Community Choir is set to perform in St Martin’s Church, London Road, Worcester this Saturday evening.

The show, which starts at 7.30pm, will see the choir performing the music of The Beatles and there will also be a Last Night of the Proms theme showcasing many popular classics.

A 12-piece professional chamber orchestra will accompany the choir.

Some tickets are still available for £12 on the night and this includes a glass of wine or non-alcoholic alternative and a light finger buffet.

Earlier this year the choir came away with the outstanding choir award in the Upton Community Choir Competition. This is the second award the choir has recently won and the choir has established an enviable reputation for its music making.

Musical director Tom Wells said: “People often ask me to tell them about the choir, but that’s not easy.

"A choir is usually categorised by the genre of the music it performs. But our audiences are treated to an eclectic mix of music, ranging from Mendelssohn to the Beatles. The important thing is that each is performed to a high standard.”

The concert will also feature a performance of Mr Wells’s own acclaimed composition for string orchestra Soldiers of the Great War, which commemorates the hundred anniversary of the end of the war. It was originally commissioned for the 2017 Worcester Chamber Music Festival.
